reverse racism, double standards, etc
im sure this will step on some toes, and it may even further bolster my point...
i still dont understand why someone who is of any "race" other than "white" can make a racial joke or slur, and its funny or forgiven. if a white person makes the same joke, he is a bigot - a bona fide racist.
for example, dave chappelle: the very first show he ever did featured the black white supremacist. he made all the racist jokes about black people that ignorant white supremacists use. in addition, he made jokes about gay people, asians, etc. one particular line went something like "with all that ching chang chong, i cant understand you...go back to your country" -- hey, he's a black comedian. he's just making light of the racism in the country, right? if a white person did something like this, it would be in poor taste, racist, etc.
i could write a book about all the reverse racism other races have toward white people, and how white people's comments and jokes are held under a microscope in comparison. why is THIS okay? how long til it swings full circle and white people are allowed to complain about racism? isnt the basic assumption that all white people MUST be racist a racist assumption in itself?
a couple things here. racism isnt a laughing matter, and i understand plenty of people are legitimately bigoted, and people of all sorts of races get pigeonholed. however, if you scrutinize every little comment and look for hidden meaning and racist hints in every little situation, your life is going to be really depressing.
learn to laugh stuff off and stop being so uptight.
anyways, ive gotta go -- my white hood just finished in the dryer

Whites (in the North American context) can be designated as 'racists', based on the fact that the Whites are the major power holders/brokers, past and present. Racism, racialization and segregation are not some throw-around concepts, but are a carefully manufacture systematic construction of a powerful elite - namely Whites of NA - and used as a modus in protecting and ensuring privilege. To claim that one person in a given race can be racist towards another can be a truth. So long as we can attribute and locate that individual's power. A Black person in America CANNOT be racist. He/she may demonstrate severe and irrational PREJUDICE towards a White person. But a White person can be a racist. Why? History, federalism and the nature of our society do not lie. We still exist in the same framework that has supported - and continues to do so - the privileged race and class. This world is not so balanced enough to declare equality among the hated and the hater. There is no 'reverse racism'. Please don't equate a privileged group's current gripes with the historical LEGACY of pain of another. It's shittily complacent and wrong.
And Chapelle is not 'making light' of racism. He never does. He satirizes and addresses WEAKNESSES in social concepts that WE take for granted and ignore, thinking it will somehow go away. It's satire, not racist jokes. I, having experienced enough racist jokes lobbed towards me, can tell what satire is and when a comment is malicious. Racists do very little to cover it up, even when they think they are so clever. They want you to know and there is no irony to that.
well, mr. sharpton, i dont even know how to respond to something/someone that/who says "black people cant be racist"
try not to feel too oppressed up there in canada.
"Whites" (on the European Continent) enjoy no such unbalanced framework...
hmmm....
oh yeah, the good old "whites" on the european continent. no racism in europe, right? ;)
uh, does anyone know a good honky joke?
